Verdict

Talcen Gwyn has been a model of consistency of late but there is the suspicion that he may now be in the grip of the handicapper and preference if for Henry Hall, who gets the vote ahead of Dark Champion. The selection has slipped back to a fair mark now, has a great draw and has the beating of Talcen Gwyn on running at Nottingham last month. The Leather Wedge is on a long losing sequence but remains plenty high enough in the weights, while Trombone Tom has failed to trouble the judge since making a winning start to his career as a two-year-old. Ryedane may do better back on a faster surface having disappointed under more testing conditions of late, while Dark Champion bounced back to form at Catterick last time but has more to do off a 5lb higher mark today. Henry Hall remains on a handy mark and is taken to make the most of his good draw.
