      Verdict

      WRENTHORPE was very slowly on debut at Haydock so did well to finish as close as he did. Providing he gets away on terms today, Bryan Smart's Helvellyn gelding can go one better today. National Anthem showed promise at Nottingham at the start of the month while Nicklaus pulled too hard over 7f at Kempton so dropping back a furlong might help. Saisons D'or was third last time at Newcastle but never threatened and others have more scope.
