Irv went close in an amateurs race at Nottingham but STAR OF ST JAMES placed over today’s trip at Carlisle having returned to a winning mark and may come out best in this. Portoro bolted up on soft ground at Salisbury on his handicap debut but is 13lb higher and has switched yards since while Codswallop is upped in trip after placing at Wolverhampton earlier in the week. Jewel Of Kabeir is another back up in distance after a better effort at Beverley.
