Verdict
Just an ordinary event and the vote goes to Mexican Pete while Stepastray, Lautrec and Billy Bathwick are others to consider. The selection has been running creditably in defeat since scoring over ten furlongs at Warwick in early July and shaped as though the step up to this trip would suit when a strong finishing runner-up over nine furlongs at Brighton on Monday. Peter Hiatt's charge is turned out quickly to run off the same mark and the hint should be taken. Stepastray finally opened his account here last time but that was a weak affair and the six-year-old now looks vulnerable off a 6lb higher mark in this better grade. Lautrec is a lightly raced type who got off the mark at this venue on his penultimate start. The son of Peintre Celebre should prove even better over this longer trip so has to be feared while Billy Bathwick was below his best last time but is just 1lb higher compared to his Musselburgh success in June and has place claims despite the burden of top weight.
