Verdict

BALTIMORE JACK can continue his hot streak at the main expense of Chalice Welcome and Bosamcliff. Tim Walford's 5-year-old is unpenalised for his win in an apprentice handicap at Pontefract earlier in the month and the manner of that success marked him down as one to stay on the right side of. He has trip and ground to suit today and he is put forward as a confident choice. Bosamcliff is interesting here as she is upped in trip which should suit, and she also hails from a yard in decent form. She has won on soft ground but she is better on a faster surface and she has to be on the shortlist. Chalice Welcome is dropped back in distance after winning at Yarmouth last time, but that won't inconvenience him and he is still racing off a competitive mark today, although he does have a penalty for that recent success. It is over two years since Hartshead last ran over this trip but this 10-year-old is not as good as he once was and we are happy to take him on. Course and distance scorer Miss Ferney could go well at a price, but the vote is given to Baltimore Jack.
