Verdict
The booking of Paul Scallan catches the eye on Eastern Scarlet, and he is fancied to make a winning reappearance, with Hans Christian and Its Ecco Boy the principle dangers. Eastern Scarlet was trained by Kevin Ryan when she won a Musselburgh maiden last year, but did not shape with too much encouragement on her first start for for Linda stubbs when down the field in a polytrack nursery at Lingfield at the end of last year. However, she is well suited by these weights, and with the very useful Irish apprentice on board is fancied to make a winning seasonal debut. Hans Christian was a surprise winner of a Beverley handicap on his reappearance, and Mark Johnston's colt would have major claims on that form, but has been woefully disappointing on his two subsequent starts and it remains to be seen what form he shows here. Its Ecco Boy has something to find on official ratings but Karl Burke's gelding comes here in good heart, having finished a creditable third in a seller at Thirsk last time and it would be no surprise to see him challenging once again here.
