      Verdict

      Makanah ran very well on last season's final start at York and though last of four on his reappearance that will have blown the cobwebs away. Saisons D'or was beaten a neck on his return to action at Newcastle and wouldn't need much more to go one better but this can go to WRENTHORPE. Bryan Smart's charge twice ran well on soft ground here in the autumn and didn't quite get the run of the race on his reappearance at Beverley. His stable companion Spiritofninetysix is speedily bred but was cheaply bought.
