Verdict

It often pays to follow John Dunlop's raids to Ripon, and with a 36 per cent strike rate here in recent seasons his Eglevski is the suggestion here, while Jewelled Dagger and Veiled Applause are among others with chances. Eglevski seems to act on any ground, so any drying underfoot won't harm his chance, and he put in a good run last time when runner-up over a similar trip at Newbury. He doesn't have an ideal draw but if he can kick off well his prominent style of running will suit here so he looks the pick. Jewelled Dagger was a nine furlong York winner when last seen in October and pedigree suggests he will get this extra 170 yards, but a 9lb rise won't help his cause first time back. Profit's Reality is now 3lb below his most recent win, which came over c&d a couple of years ago on soft ground. He has, however, won on fast ground before, so he should go on this surface and a return to form would be no great surprise. Seb Sanders knows all about Veiled Applause, on whom he won at Wolverhampton last year, but Seb rides the selection tonight and Veiled Applause needs a career best to score, though this trip is ideal and he is at least in decent enough form. Moheebb finds it very difficult to get his nose in front and especially off this mark, so we will oppose today, while Just Bond would look well in if he could transfer his form on artificial surfaces to turf, but thus far he has been unable to do so. Danish Rebel may find improvement for a first-time tongue strap, but on this occasion our vote goes to Eglevski.
