In depth
Verdict
Barry Hills can expand on his 20% strike-rate with his three-year-old runners at Ripon if, as expected, Grand But One can do himself justice today; possibly at the main expense of Soviet Treat, who makes her debut for Mark Johnston today. However, Lucayan Legend is also respected after a fair effort at Goodwood last time and, like newcomer, Murbaat, is worth monitoring in the betting today. While Red Monarch is worth noting in running this time as he tackles what should be a more appropriate trip for him. However, nothing catches the eye as much as Grand But One as he easily brushed aside some better fancied rivals when he was last seen out. That effort came on the back of good performance in finishing sixth in the Wood Ditton and it will be surprising if Grand But One cannot qualify for his handicap mark in style if he delivers on those promises this afternoon.
