In depth

Verdict

The big question is, are there any potential Triumph Hurdle candidates amongst this lot? On what we have seen so far, only three appear to fit the bill, Do L'Enfant D'Eau, Bongo Fury and Almnadia. The latter made a winning debut in fact at Cheltenham in October, and took part in a hot hurdle race won by Don Fernando on a return to Prestbury Park. The worry is that she was well held at Leicester last time, and will find the principals here just too much of a handful. The ex-French Bongo Fury opened her British account on fast ground at Ludlow, and was not disgraced at Cheltenham last time when second to Classic Note, as she was the only three-year-old in the line-up. Martin Pipe's filly did not seem inconvenienced by the soft ground then and should be in at the finish. The TEAMtalk selection however is Do L'Enfant d'Eau. The Philip Hobbs inmate beat another French import from the Paul Nicholls stable when opening his account at the first time of asking at Hereford recently, after which the trainer's wife Sarah stated that he loved the soft ground and will stay further. His stamina should come into play up the Sandown hill, and with Richard Johnson in the plate, he can prove too strong for his main female rivals.
