Verdict
Another competitive event to close the card and we like the look of Sudden Shock over Ebony Light, Cool Investment, Fasgo and Kings Mistral. The selection won the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham in March, and a four-pound higher mark today still makes him competitive to our eyes. A spin over hurdles at Wetherby could well have cleared his tubes too. Lucky Bay, who may have been fortunate to land a Grade 2 event at Newbury last year, was 24 lengths behind the selection at Newbury although he is now 11 pounds better off. The handicapper took a dim view of his big win but is starting to relent and he will come here fit after a seasonal pipe-opener. Carbury Cross has chances on the best of his form but has become a bit unreliable. Ebony Light, though, is on the up and, despite being raised 10 pounds for a Carlisle win - a track he loves - can still go well. Formerly with Mark Johnston, Cool Investment would arguably have beaten Fasgo but for falling last time at Plumpton. His trainer rates him as a very good staying prospect and, still only six, he stays well has to be respected too. Fasgo is fairly lightly raced, stays well and has improved for a breathing operation. Midnight Gunner will also see out the trip but maybe a downside is that he lacks a run this season, while Kings Mistral, who has won four times at this track, has a chance from his current mark, and he can run well fresh. Bounce Back last won when landing the Whitbread Gold Cup impressively over course and distance in April 2002, but now races from a mark that is seven pounds higher after failing to build on that run. However, do not rule out Martin Pipe working the oracle with a horse who is still only seven. A fine way to close Tingle Creek day and maybe Sudden Shock will be up to the challenge.
