Verdict
Top Spec looks to have a cracking chance here, with Border Music, Spring Jim and Star Of Light others to consider. Top Spec is due to go up a few pounds very shortly due to some excellent recent form. A winner over a six furlong claimer over course and distance, very easily, last month followed by a big-field handicap second at Kempton last time, makes him an attractive proposition off this mark, and with conditions and trip again in his favour he looks the one to be on. Spring Jim has also been going well, but has the look of a horse in the grip of the handicapper, after failing to cope with a 9lb rise following win and placed efforts at Nottingham and Kempton. This trip is not certain to be his best either, so he is opposed. Border Music has been running well in defeat, but keeps finding one or two too good. He has conditions to suit again but the step up in trip is not sure to suit, while he is rising in the weights without winning, which is another negative. On the other hand Star Of Light should be suited by this 10 furlongs, after being raced over seven furlongs thus far. His Newbury handicap third in July looks as though it would be good enough to get him involved here, and with that extra three furlongs in the plus column we can expect a bold showing. But Top Spec sets the standard here and he can go in again.
