In depth

Safwa looks a stand-out bet in this maiden and she is preferred to Fidelia and Evening Affair. This filly from the Sir Michael Stoute yard sets the standard for the rest on her recent close second behind Alo Pura at Ascot. She had Fidelia a neck back in third that day but she looks the type who has plenty of scope for improvement and she should be hard to beat. Evening Affair could be the fly in the ointment for both Safwa and Fidelia as this Godolphin newcomer certainly looks the part on breeding and the market will be a guide to her chance. It will be a surprise if any of the others are good enough and that returns us to Safwa as the one to beat.

Evening Affair Kingmambo filly, half-sister to 6f-7f winner Poseidon's Bride.

Fidelia (IRE) 5-1 (9-0) Slowly into stride, held up in rear, headway over 2f out, stayed on strongly towards finish, 3rd of 11, 1/2l behind Alo Pura (9-0) at Ascot 1m 3yo mdn fll (4) gs in Jul.

Miss Habershon Baryshnikov filly out of a moderate racemare.

Regal Curtsy 25-1 (8-12) Always behind, last of 13, 8l behind Blue Bamboo (8-13) at Lingfield 7f 3yo fll hcp 0-100 (5) pol in Apr.

Safwa (IRE) 8-1 (9-0) Prominent in chasing group and soon chased clear leader, closed to lead over 2f out, headed well inside final furlong, rallied near finish, just held, 2nd of 11, hd behind Alo Pura (9-0) at Ascot 1m 3yo mdn fll (4) gs in Jul.

Southside Star 50-1 (8-9) Led 1f, led again 8f out, ridden and headed 3f out, soon weakened, 8th of 9, 48l behind Alaghiraar (9-0) at Leicester 1m 2f 3yo & 4yo mdn (5) sft in Jul.
