        Verdict

        The pick of a poor bunch here looks to be Poniard, whiel Power Alert and Sunley Sovereign have some positive points if you are looking for something to oppose the likely jolly. Poniard ripped up the form book with half length success from Totally Free in a three-year-old handicap over c&d last time out. The weights are framed nicely as far as he is concerned in this contest, we know he is in good heart and he acts on the surface and with nothing else in great nick we will side with him to follow up. Power Alert should appreciate the return to this trip after being caught out over shorter last time. The form of his penultimate start here behind Mr Chocolate Drop would clearly give him a chance so he is respected. Little else makes any appeal although Sunley Sovereign seems to act best over this trip and if he handles the surface well enough at the first attempt then he may well be the next one home, but Poniard gets the nod.
