Verdict

There should not be too many getting into this opener and the short list comprises of Mademoiselle, Vancouver Gold, Sawwaah and Weet For Ever and the vote goes to Sawwaah. The Dandy Nicholls-trained selection can overcome his draw over this, his optimum trip. The veteran 10-year-old won off a 15lb higher mark as recently as last summer and although he has never won on this surface, his recent form is still decent in the context of this race and he can take advantage of this lowly company to score. Vancouver Gold looks the biggest danger. A c&d winner off a 12lb higher mark almost a year ago, the mare has been unable to add to her tally of success but goes well at this trip and was not far away last time, so a repeat of that effort will see her go close. Mademoiselle has the sort of form that could earn her a place but she has just one win from 24 starts and cannot be backed with any confidence, while Weet For Ever is not particularly well treated here on official ratings and has to shoulder top weight, so we prefer Sawwaah to do the business.
