Verdict
Emperor Cat is one of a few who can be fancied here and so merits only a narrow vote over Legalis and Speedfit Free to name but two. Paul Blockley certainly knows the time of day in these lowly affairs and on the evidence so far, Emperor Cat is going to go close. Forget his latest effort in a class F handicap as he missed the break and failed to get competitive, but his earlier third against older opponents in this grade was a sterling effort. Given that both his past wins have been over sprint trips, the gelding has things very much in his favour now and there should be no excuses. Legalis was a beaten favourite last time after being slowly away but had earlier beaten Feast Of Romance, and a line through that horse gives him a chance of toppling the selection. However, the shorter trip will suit Emperor Cat more. Of the others, Speedfit Free has past course form, and Spy Master has the assistance of wily old George Duffield. Even so, it is a weak contest that can go to Emperor Cat.
