In depth

Verdict

A horrible race to start the day's proceedings at Southwell with plenty of unexposed two-year-olds in opposition including Desert Fern, Dancing Moonlight and Lady Hopeful but what can only be a tentative vote goes to Satin Rose. The selection made a promising debut at Doncaster last month and granted natural improvement, and an ability to handle the Fibresand, she looks the best bet in a hard race. Desert Fern looks the pick of Beborah Evans two runners in the race and has vital course experience, while Dancing Moonlight, who hails from the stable of Norma Macauley that does well here, showed signs of ability first time up. Lady Hopeful has had the benefit of two starts and should be thereabouts again. Any one of the three newcomers Sister Gee, Fraambuoyant and Simply St Lucia could be good enough to win this at the first time of asking but none of the trio makes any great appeal on pedigree and, for those wishing to have an investment, Satin Rose looks the best option.
