In depth

Theatrebar may be in the veteran stage now but is running as well as ever and is no forlorn hope in a competitive handicap. Young Wolf has only run in two handicaps and won them both so has to go on the short-list. Morraman has been general progressive since getting off the mark in a Musselburgh maiden back in December but Alfie's Choice will need to improve on last year’s form having run just once this year over fences. MR MAFIA won twice over fences here last month but has also won at the track over hurdles. The 10-year-old is bang in form and getting plenty of weight from his rivals today with Richard Johnson’s presence in the saddle a further plus. Jacks Last Hope has not been at his best since returning from a lay-off.

Theatrebar 5-1 (11-12) Always prominent, went 2nd 7th, slight lead 3 out, ridden and headed last, not quicken, 2nd of 7, 2l behind Sirobbie (10-5) at Uttoxeter 2m 7f hcp (2) gd in Jun.

Young Wolf (IRE) 11-4fav (11-12) Took keen hold, held up in touch, led before 6th, not fluent 4 out, pressed last, stayed on gamely, won at Stratford 3m 2f hcp (3) gd in Jul beating Win My Wings (11-7) by 1 1/4l, 7 ran.

Jacks Last Hope 5-1 (11-5) Chased leaders, reminders after 4th, soon pushed along, under pressure 3 out, stayed on into 3rd, never able to challenge, 3rd of 4, 5l behind Follow The Bear (11-10) at Market Rasen 2m 7f hcp (2) gs in Jul.

Morraman (IRE) 7-2fav (12-1) Held up in touch, hit last, ridden and chased winner when rider became unbalanced briefly flat, not quicken, 2nd of 10, 2 1/4l behind Melody Of Scotland (11-6) at Hexham 2m 4f hcp (4) gd in Jun.

Mr Mafia (IRE) 5-4fav (11-3) Led until hit 1st, jumped well after, chased leader, in front again approaching 6th, clear from 4 out, pushed along before 2 out, easily, won at Southwell 3m hcp (4) gd in Jul beating Kings Temptation (11-3) by 9l, 6 ran.

Alfie's Choice (IRE) 4-5fav (10-12) Tracked winner, not fluent 2nd, mistake next, mistake and lost place 3 out, readily outpaced by front pair between last 2, no chance in clear 3rd before last, 3rd of 5, 19l behind Notwhatiam (10-12) at Hexham 2m 4f (4) gd in May.
