Verdict
Kagoshima, second on his last two starts, can go one better at the expense of Citrus Magic, Michaels Dream and Charnwood Street. An easy winner of a class D handicap at Pontefract in June 2001, thorough stayer Kagoshima was highly thought of by handler John Norton who had considered entering him for the Ascot Stakes at one time. Unfortunately, his fortunes have taken a dive, and by the time he lined up here 12 days ago, he was rated 18lbs lower. Leading at halfway over today's course and distance, he lost out in a photo to Paddy Mul, and unless that was a flash in the pan, the nine-year-old can be supported to put matters right. He had Worlaby Dale over five lengths behind and on the same terms, safely holds that rival here. Citrus Magic was given an enterprising ride by Stephanie Hollinshead to make all at Wolverhampton and lose her maiden tag at the 25th time of asking. He goes well for a girl and now has the assistance of Joanna Badger, but has more to do. Michaels Dream had his last outing on the Flat at Redcar in October when down the field but has been fairly busy over hurdles finishing second on all three starts, so will line up fit enough. The rest make little appeal and Kagoshima should be the one to beat.
