      Verdict

The shortlist here consists of Cerebus, Bird Over and Baileys Applause, with the vote going to Bird Over. Much as it is slightly surprising to see the selection dropping back in trip after showing improvement to score at Wolverhampton three days ago, there is no doubt that she comes here on an upward curve of improvement and might be worth chancing again under a penalty. Cerebus holds claims as he is a course and distance winner and has been holding his form pretty well, while Baileys Applause rates a danger as he he improved to score here over five furlongs last time, seemed to take to the surface that day and could improve again at six furlongs. Turning to the others and Farthing is still a maiden and might find one or two too good again and Soft Focus is not guaranteed to appreciate the drop in trip. How's That has won a seven-furlong seller, but has won on Turf at today's trip, while Monkey Madge needs to improve to feature on his all-weather debut. This, then, returns us to the selection, which is Bird Over.
