In depth

Verdict

Rustic Charm stands out here, with Mabel Riley, Lightning Fork and Garw Valley nominated as the main dangers. With Tony McCoy booked to ride, Rustic Charm will be a popular choice to follow up her Cartmel victory in similar company 11 days ago. Connections have already pointed out that she is no better than plating class, so it is interesting that they went up to 8,500gns to retain her. They should therefore be very hopeful that they will get some of that back here, as she does not have a great deal to beat. Mabel Riley failed to settle on her hurdles debut at Fakenham but still finished third and should win a seller this summer if not today, while Lightning Fork has plenty to learn but was an encouraging fourth in a non-seller at Worcester on her racecourse introduction 12 days ago. Garw Valley in contrast has plenty of experience but has an absence to overcome so is passed over. All in all, Rustic Charm should take the beating despite a penalty.
