In depth

Verdict

All three of David Loder's three-year-old runners at the track last year won, and with the yard in good form again we will side with debutante Sunday City to make a winning start, with the more experienced pair of Sunny Lady and Portrait Of A Lady to chase him home. Loder has been having first time winners so far and therefore Sunday City is likely to be straight enough for his first public appearance. He will have plenty of time to get into the race, is bred for middle distances, and is expected to make his presence felt with a win. Any market confidence would help. Portrait Of A Lady has had four runs to date, producing her best effort when a length second at Folkestone last time. She would probably prefer some cut in the ground, though she is bred to get every yard of this trip and can make the frame along with Sunny Lady. The latter is a Nashwan filly who will therefore be at home over 12 furlongs. She improved markedly on her juvenile efforts when a running on second at Kempton last time and with better ground likely to be advantageous she can give the selection most to do. Victory Lap needs to improve a fair bit to win, while stablemate Hathlen prefers this surface and we may see a better effort here, though it will be a bit of a surprise if he is up to winning. The selection then, is Sunday City.
