In depth
Verdict
Jerome has the best form on show here, and is marginally preferred to Dry Wit and the newcomer, Blue Hills. Mark Johnston's colt, by Vettori, is related to a couple of winners and hails from a yard that is more than capable of producing them to make winning debuts, so the market could provide a reliable guide as to his merits. Dry Wit has shaped reasonably well on both starts so far, runner-up on her debut at Warwick before tiring slightly to finish fourth over this course and distance. Kevin Darley's mount should be thereabouts, but we just prefer Jerome, one of two horses trained by Tim Easterby. His best form so far came when he was runner-up over six furlongs here in June, and has had excuses for not performing quite so well since then. Kings Rock, third at Hamilton last time, is another to come into the reckoning, but this doesn't look to be the hottest of maidens, and Jerome may just prove good enough.
