In depth
Verdict
After an eye-catching effort last time, Captain Darling is taken to score on his handicap debut here, with La Corujera, The Gambler and Jalouhar all respected as well. The latter hails from a stable in decent form and there is every chance that this easy seven furlongs will suit well, so Karl Burke's gelding makes some each-way appeal at likely odds. The Gambler is a generally consistent type and although not ideally drawn looks set to give a decent showing, while La Corujera arguably had too much use made of her at Redcar last time. That was disappointing after a most promising reappearance, and she can improve on that run if ridden with a shade more restraint. But we'll take a chance on Captain Darling, who put up an eyecatching performance in maiden company at Redcar last time, overcoming a slow start to finish third behind the useful Peace Flag. A return to this trip should suit, and he is Brett Doyle's only booked ride of the afternoon, so we think Captain Darling is capable of scoring a first victory here.
