In depth

Verdict

In the likely absence of Imperial Sword, Strabinios King can take this ordinary handicap, with Trinculo perhaps the main danger. The selection has been in consistent form - which is more than we can say about most of these - and has justified his place at the head of the weights here as a result of that. Already a 7f winner on fast ground at Thirsk, he landed a handicap over this 6f trip last time at Wolverhampton. Even with a 4lb rise he should still go very well and with little else standing out off the page he looks capable of winning again. Trinculo was also a Wolverhampton winner over this trip recently and fast ground on turf suits him, so we expect to see more here than when he disappointed at Sandown last time. Mr Rev looks in need of some assistance from the assessor, and the same can be said of White Ledger, who has been better than this but is now on the slide. Eve Johnson Houghton has her string in good nick but Barbar would still be a bit of a surprise winner, while Chief Exec is 4lb below a polytrack winning mark so in this weak affair he can be very competitive. Not a race to dwell on and Strabinios King gets the nod.
