Verdict

A tricky race to call with none coming into it on the back of a decent run. CONSTANTIUS is the token selection ahead of Ballygalley Bob and Salsero. The topweight hasn't shown a great deal this term and his profile suggests that he may not want the ground to dry out too much but he has claims on the pick of last season's form. Beauchamp Prince is another that could go close if recapturing his best whilst Woodlands Genpower's run at Towcester has to go down as a big disappointment as the conditions were ideal. There certainly wasn't anything wrong with the conditions when Constantius ran at Kempton but he's presumably none the worse for the run as he makes this relatively quick return to the track. He's entering into new territory over this longer trip so has a fair bit to do but isn't as exposed as some of his opponents. Toni Alcala represents the yard responsible for last year's winner, Dillay Brook hails from a stable in form and Salsero may improve for the fitting of a tongue strap, Solid As A Rock is better than he showed last time and Prince Of Slane used to be better than his recent form suggests. Compelling cases are few and far between in this staying chase; Constantius gets the vote.
