Verdict

The Unit is starting to look well treated but probably needs a quicker surface than he’ll encounter today. A Grade 2 winner over hurdles, Claimantakinforgan is having only a third run over fences but he has a very long absence to overcome and his trainer may have stronger claims with PRECIOUS CARGO. The latter chased home the smart Rouge Vif and Nuba Negra in a Grade 2 here last season and has had wind surgery since beaten by the top-class Master Tommytucker in a match at Huntingdon in the autumn. Benatar jumped poorly and was pulled up at Sandown after an earlier third in a Grade 3 at Cheltenham and Espoir De Teillee was well behind Springtown Lake at Aintree in November. The latter won this last year so can’t be ignored, despite being 5lb higher. Espoir De Guye has twice run well over similar trips at Ascot this season and is another for the shortlist..
