In depth

Verdict

It may pay to oppose the doubly-penalised pair of Raise You Five and Silver Kate and we will do just that in the shape of MISS OVERDRIVE. Alan King's mare was beaten only a nose over this trip last time and so to some degree can be regarded as a winner without a penalty, a notion which makes her hard to oppose in this similar company. Conditions were soft that day and so the ground isn't likely to pose too much of a problem for this bumper winner who wasn't beaten far in the Aintree feature in the spring. She's taken time to adapt to the switch to hurdles but that effort last time was eye-catching enough to make her a confident choice here. Silver Kate may still rate the biggest danger despite the penalties she's incurred for winning two races at Chepstow, such was the manner of the latest of those. Granted it wasn't a strong race but the 17-length victory margin could've been further and with conditions heavy that day today's soft ground won't be a problem and she promises to run a solid race. Silver Kate is of more interest than Raise You Five who also arrives in search of the hat-trick. Jonjo O'Neill's charge has looked impressive in recording two facile successes but the company wasn't great on either occasion and now looks the time to oppose her, with Queen Poline put forward as more of a danger. Lucy Wadham's mare won a couple of bumpers before finding class one company too hot in that sphere but even so those efforts promised much for this switch to hurdling. She perhaps paid the price for a couple of mistakes as well as helping to force a strong pace when held last time but, having been given a break since, the five-year-old could bounce back to form here. Gentle Caribou is another bumper winner and Nick Gifford's horse improved on her hurdling debut when second last time. Again, the ground won't be a problem and she's another in with a chance in what looks a relatively strong race. Gilwen Glory has a bit to find on the ratings and will need to step forward somewhat whilst Evella will also need to improve on her hurdles bow. Conditions should be fine for the latter who merits a market check but Jenny's Gold looked to struggle on similar ground last time and looks opposable as she's plenty to find as it stands. A couple of proven performers take on some unexposed potential improvers in what is a fascinating affair, but we're keen on the chances of Miss Overdrive who can gain her first success over hurdles.
