In depth

Verdict

In what could be an informative affair, just a tentative vote goes to Gyroscope over a whole host of possibles including First Bloom, Penny From Heaven, and Truly Enchanting. They are just a few nice looking fillies that could have bright futures, and the betting market may throw more light on the contest, but we have to pin our colours to the mast somewhere, so we shall nominate Gyroscope. She was putting in all her best work at the finish when third in what was an above-average maiden at Wolverhampton in October, and the step up in trip should bring about the required improvement. First Bloom, who cost $250,000 is a similar sort, having shaped well when runner-up over the same course-and distance last year, and is another that will benefit from a longer journey. Penny From Heaven is the most experienced on view, having had two runs last season, and with her stable generally in good form, can be expected to give a good show. There are any number of newcomers from top yards, notably Labor Day, Truly Enchanting and the selection's stablemate Orama's Ghost, so finding the winner is not an easy task, but we return to Gyroscope as the answer.
