In depth

AUBERGE DU LAC was never going to catch the well regarded Naseem when second at Chelmsford but this looks easier and David Simcock’s colt is preferred to Do You Know. The latter was narrowly beaten at Chelmsford back in November while Hughie Morrison runs both Special Relation and King Of Scotland with the former making most appeal on last month’s second over 7f, also at Chelmsford. Newton Heath is related to a winner and Whirlwind Romance is another newcomer to note.

Auberge Du Lac (IRE) 3-1 (9-5) In touch, ridden and headway over 1f out, soon switched right, kept on to chase easy winner inside final furlong, 2nd of 15, 5l behind Naseem (9-5) at Chelmsford City 1m mdn stks (3) pol in Dec.

Baby Helmet 14-1 (9-5) In touch, pushed along over 3f out, soon lost place, 6th of 8, 12 3/4l behind Man Of Verve (9-5) at Catterick 6f mdn stks (6) sft in Oct.

King Of Scotland (FR) 7-1 (9-2) Tracked leader, ridden over 1f out, faded inside final furlong, last of 4, 3 1/2l behind Mr Scaramanga (9-9) at Lingfield 1m stks (5) pol in Dec.

Newton Heath (IRE) Casamento gelding out of Carpet Lover.

Special Relation (IRE) 8-1 (9-5) In touch in mid-division on inside, closed 2f out, went 2nd inside final furlong, no impression on winner, 2nd of 9, 6l behind Omran (9-5) at Chelmsford City 7f mdn stks (5) pol in Dec.
