Verdict
It is hard to get away from the chances of Spear, a most impressive winner over course and distance last time, and he is taken to beat Tilt and Palamedes. David Loder's three-year-old had shown plenty of promise on the turf before bolting up in that competitive event. A six pound penalty shouldn't stop him today and he looks then one to be on. Tilt was successful on his seasonal debut at Beverley and he was badly hampered next time in a handicap won by Chocolate Caramel. With a trouble free run today he should be involved in the finish. Palamedes looked a decent type a couple of seasons ago and will have needed his recent blow out at Salisbury. Of the others Tresor Secret ran well in a claimer here last time and holds an each-way chance, however Spear looks one step ahead of the handicapper and he gets our vote.
