        Verdict

        A small field for this maiden and Effective is confidently expected to score. He was a good second behind Desert Spirit last time and if he reproduces that effort here he should win. Before Dawn rates the main danger he has shown a modicum of ability in similar contests but he has had plenty of chances. Lugton was a fair fourth on his debut behind Eastern Dagger and he is sure to have learnt from the experience and he could run into a place. Sun Cat has also shown a modicum of ability but he may do better in handicaps. The remainder need to improve on all known form to take a hand in the finish.
