In depth

Verdict

Councellor can benefit from Jamie Spencer's assistance to land the claimer, with the likes of Swing The Ring, Swinbrook and Ochre Bay likely to play a part in proceedings. Councellor has been reunited with Spencer on each of his last two starts on the all-weather, here and at Kempton last time in similar company to today's. Placed on both occasions, Stef Liddiard's charge, who in truth is pretty hard to win with, has leading claims on recent evidence. Swing The Ring is in to be claimed for ¿18,000, and connections will not really want to lose the colt who was thought good enough to contest Group races in Germany. He steps back up to six furlongs and could be a danger, while Swinbrook has gone off the boil since beating Zidane no less at Leicester last year, but is dangerous to rule out on that form. Ochre Bay has won over the course-and-distance and this regular visitor now drops in grade so is yet another to consider, but we shall plump for Councellor in an open affair on paper.
