Verdict
You'd be forgiven for thinking that this was a hurdles race but CALCULATING can see off National Hunt regulars, Sheshali and Right Option. Mark Usher's charge has been a model of consistency of late and a step back up to two miles should not really represent any issues. Sheshali has been a useful sort for connections under National Hunt rules. They found a weak Bath race to break the duck on the flat in though the handicapper has taken no chances whatsoever. Right Option is a fine dual purpose sort. Kevin Ghunowa has been on board for two of those flat victories. Jeer gained a deserved victory at Lingfield having gone close on a number of occasions. The step up to two miles represents something of a step into the unknown. Jennie Candlish has had a couple of recent winners over the sticks so Tropical Blue should not be ignored. The step up to this distance has looked overdue for some time. A difficult race to assess and Calculating, while more exposed than most, seems to be the most feasible option on balance.
