In depth

Verdict

Latif, Mary Gray and Valeureux look the most likely candidates in the closing apprentice-handicap and our selection is Mary Gray. The Mark Johnston-trained filly has bags of stamina as she showed when winning at Carlisle and Haydock last summer. She has won off a higher mark than this before and if she comes here fit she will take all the beating. Valeureux was a close up second over this course and trip earlier this month and he is entitled to go close again today. However that was his best run in some time, and although there may be more to come, others are preferred. Latif ran away with a Lingfield-handicap last week but faces a stiff task under a penalty and over a longer trip. So we return to our selection, Mary Gray to win the closing race under Greg Fairley.
