In depth

Verdict

Keelung can make a winning start over the likes of the more experienced Baileys Best, with Giveusawave and Sualda worth a mention at least. Philip Hobbs is sure to have prepared Keelung well for his debut over timber, and on the evidence of his past Flat form two years ago, the ex-Michael Jarvis inmate would have major claims. Successful for that trainer on testing ground at Newcastle in 2004, he just went right off the boil, finishing stone last on his final outing for the yard at Newmarket later that year, and has not been seen since. He has obviously had his problems, but even a mere semblance of his undoubted talent would be enough here, if he is fit enough. Baileys Best will strip fitter for his recent return to action at Fontwell where he was third to Warpath, and he should be involved in the finish here. Giveusawave needs to get his jumping together before being considered, while Sualda could be a danger, as he has winning Flat form this summer, albeit at claiming level. However, if Hobbs has got Keelung right, he can come back with a bang.
