In depth

Verdict

King Ozzy won well enough at Stratford when last seen in July but a 7lb rise for that success looks harsh and Martin Keighley's gelding may be booked for a place at best in a race where it maybe worth taking a chance with SIR IAN, who gets the vote with Crouch End Flyer rated the best of the rest. The selection has been given a break since his latest start when a close third behind Bret Maverick at Bangor in May and Charlie Longsdon's gelding looks worth chancing on his reappearance racing off the same mark today. Haldibari ran better at Exeter earlier this month but that was a weaker race than this and the gelding remains a maiden under all codes. Brendan Powell's War Footing is less exposed than his opponents after just five starts but needs to improve to trouble the judge and of more interest may be And Whatever Else. Sue Smith's mare was well held when last seen at Stratford in July but earlier form is solid and she has claims if able to run up to that form but probably needs some help from the handicapper. Crouch End Flyer won well for Nigel Twiston-Davies at Towcester earlier this month and he has every chance of following up that success but a 9lb rise for that success makes this tougher and preference is for the reappearing Sir Ian.
