In depth

Verdict

EMMA'S GIFT was really beginning to get the hang of things at the business end at Newmarket last time and is taken to get off the mark here, while Master Macho and Belle Royale are others short-listed. The selection was not particularly fancied on its debut at the Craven meeting, taking her time to get into the contest, but then running on strongly to claim fourth place. The filly is related to plenty of winners, including over sprint trips and at this age, and we hope that she can step up to the mark this time. Belle Royale is from moderate stock, but is at least related to minor success and showed up well on debut at Thirsk when also unfancied in claiming company. This will probably be a little tougher than that contest, but she does at least have a positive in the form book to bring here and is respected. Master Macho has had three chances and was possibly a little unlucky when in the process of running his best race so far at Leicester last time. Conditions should suit and he is likely to give the selection most to do. Of the newcomers, Comrade Bond could be nicely tuned up and looks to have the pedigree that suggests he can get involved, though Child Bride appears to be the pick on bloodlines and would be interesting if backed. Emma's Gift gets the nod.
