In depth

Verdict

NORTHERN JEM would be an apt winner here with Bavarian Nordic and Shy Glance others of note. Although most of his better form is on a softer surface, trip and ground are realistically no problem to the former George Margarson inmate and with a decent apprentice booked, we are hopeful of a good run at what should be decent odds. Bavarian Nordic looks the sort who could make a decent jumper. The handicapper has dropped him plenty down the weights though more rain from the gods would be a help. Shy Glance won well at Hamilton over nine furlongs. The handicapper was perfectly entitled to raise him 5lb as a consequence. Holiday Cocktail has not seen the racecourse too often this term though he had looked useful the season before. Rosbay has been a bitter disappointment this season having exhibited earlier promise. Red Jade has yet to sparkle since joining Richard Fahey but this well bred colt has taken on far better opposition than this in the past. Golden Button is best of the rest. Northern Jem is the tentative call in a race where the market may offer most clues.
