Verdict

Barynya may have been feeling the very quick ground when beaten last time out at Nottingham but she was still a costly failure and therefore we will take a chance on newcomer PETE'S PASSION. Richard Fahey's filly is the first foal of a mare who is a half-sister to several juvenile winners over this sort of trip and she looks a likely player on her debut. The market will have to agree, but if it does then she could upset the likely favourite Barynya. Sir Michael Stoute's daughter of Pivotal evidently has ability and the drop in trip should be in her favour, but she doesn't look the most stable of short-priced favourites given her record so far. It is no surprise that she is from a top-class family, and she may be good enough today. Elements needs to improve but may do so now on a better surface however she may fare better in handicaps, Fine Silk was well-held on her debut at Ayr in a race that looks fair form, whilst In Secret is bred to come into her own over further in time. Langland Bay has shown ability and the stable are in better form now, however a bigger threat could be the 77-rated Shaws Diamond. Her recent fourth in a conditions race at Newmarket was a fair effort, but perhaps her best run was a three-length seventh to Cloudy Start at Epsom at the Derby meeting. The market should be a good guide here, but we will take a chance on Pete's Passion.
