Verdict

Stoop To Conquer should come on a bundle for his reappearance run behind the well handicapped Greenwich Meantime at Ripon last month and is taken to open his account for the season here at the main expense of Trance and Isa'af. The last mentioned ran as well as could have been expected behind another in-form rival in Prairie Sun at Beverley last week and should appreciate the softer ground today although his conqueror somewhat let the form down at Newcastle on Tuesday. Great As Gold has done little wrong in two starts back on the flat after a busy campaign this winter and is entitled to be thereabouts along with another performer better known for his jumping exploits Villago, who took advantage of a fair mark to win over a similar trip at Pontefract last time. Nicky Henderson's runners on the level always warrant respect and All Star is no exception, while David Barron's Trance could be of interest stepping up to a distance that should suit. Stoop To Conquer lost no caste in defeat at Ripon though and, with plenty more to come over today's longer trip, he gets the vote.
