Verdict
This looks a good renewal with The July Cup first, second and third all in opposition, along with eight out of the first ten home in the King's Stand Stakes. Continent gained reward for some solid efforts at this level, when winning the July Cup. At his best when coming off a fast pace, the race was run to suit at Newmarket, but it is doubtful that this fast five-furlongs will suit as well. Bahamian Pirate ran a personal best in that race and could well have been unlucky as he was drawn widest of all. This trip on fast ground will hold no fears for him. Danehurst didn't quite get home at Newmarket and will be much better suited by the return to this trip. She could well reverse July Cup form with the front two. Further down the field that day, Malhub was unsuited by the softened ground. He had previously been impressive when landing the Golden Jubilee Stakes (formerly the Cork and Orrery) from Danehurst, on fast ground and providing it doesn't rain, he looks sure to be involved in the finish. Smokin Beau, The Trader, Lady Dominatrix and Rudi's Pet, will enusre there is no hanging around, but they all look to have plenty on at this level. The winner of the King's Stand Stakes, Dominica is open to plenty of improvement and will be difficult to keep out of the frame, while others who should run well without being good enough to win include Jessica's Dream and Orientor. However the vote goes to Henry Candy's Kyllachy. He returned to action this term when handing out a beating to handicappers at Newbury, before showing improved form to land the Group 3 Victor Chandler Stakes at the Guineas meeting, with several of today's runners behind him. He then went on to demolish a decent field in the Group 2 Temple Stakes, before finishing an unlucky third in the King's Stand at Ascot. He would certainly have won that day had he anything like a clear run and is a confident choice to turn around the form with the front pair that day Dominica and Continent.
