Verdict
This will be fast, furious and a very memorable day for Bryan Smart if Moorhouse Lad can justify the trainer's claim that this is the fastest horse he has ever trained. Dandy Man, Amadeus Wolf and the Australian hope Magnus are others that have to merit respect in a tough renewal, while Reverence will have enter the equation if there was a significant down pouring of rain before the off. The last named has yet to hit the heights of last season but may have needed a couple of runs to bring his fitness levels up to scratch. Eric Alston's charge has a blistering turn of foot when the conditions suit and, as he had two lengths to spare over Amadeus Wolf in this race last year; he has to be respected as returning champion. Magnus is hard to assess, as most of his winning form has been over six furlongs in his homeland. However, his respectable third in the King's Stand brings him right into the argument and, odds permitting, his may be worth a saver option. Dandy Man is another that has speed to burn and will not go down without a fight. However, his odds are a little cramped for a horse who appears to need the ground to a good deal firmer for him to show his best. Others worth a mention are: Wi Dud, who is surely a winner waiting to find a race, while Hoh Mike has a solid each-way chance after his sterling effort to win at Sandown. However, Moorhouse Lad represents the best sporting option at the likely odds and it would come as no surprise to see this fellow pull this out of the bag now that the penny a finally dropped with him.
