Wakefield triumphed 20-6 over struggling Hull to clinch their third win at the KC Stadium in the last five seasons.
Former Airlie Bird Tommy Lee returned to haunt his old club with a second-half try as the Wildcats heaped the pressure on Richard Agar.
The Black and Whites coach has now seen his side win just one of their opening six games, with the latest loss also spoiling a landmark night for Richard Horne as he made his 300th appearance for his hometown team.
Not even the return of scrum-half Sean Long could help the hosts get a much-needed win, though they did start the game impressively.
Joe Westerman looked good for an early score until he shelled Long's pass close to the line, while winger Reece Lyne was then dumped in touch by Aaron Murphy as he looked to dive over.
Chances wasted
Another chance went begging when Tom Briscoe knocked on as he went to touch down and, within seconds, Wakefield had hit the front.
Frankie Mariano accepted a pass from hooker Julien Rinaldi to cross, with Josh Griffin adding the first of his four goals.
Hull twice should have responded; for a second time Briscoe knocked on when a try looked a certainty and then Lyne inexplicably planted a foot in touch after Horne had given him a free run to the line.
They finally scored three minutes into the second half when Tickle worked his way over, though Wakefield felt he'd actually been stopped short.
The Wildcats edged back in front with a penalty from Griffin on the hour before an error by Cameron Phelps let in Lee, released by Hull after five years on Humberside, for a crucial score.
Griffin added the goal to make it 14-6 and that's the way it stayed until a late, late try arrived after the final hooter had sounded.
Greg Johnson took advantage of a gaping hole in Hull's defence and seared through it, before handing off to on-loan forward Kyle Amor to finish.
