Everton have had a bid rejected by League One side Sheffield United for their England U19 goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The highly-rated teenager, 18, has represented England at U18 and U19 and has been on the bench at Bramall Lane for most of the season.

He made his debut for Chris Wilder's side in November, when he kept a clean sheet in United's 6-0 FA Cup victory over League Two strugglers Leyton Orient.

Ramsdale also played in a 3-2 defeat to Bolton in the next round at the Macron Stadium, but is yet to play a league game.

A graduate from the Yorkshire club's Steelphalt Academy last year, Wilder has shown faith in Ramsdale since bringing him into the senior squad as regular starter Simon Moore's deputy.

George Long had initially started the season in goal for United but his decision to explore other options has seen him left out of the side.

Rather than put him on the bench, Wilder has left the 23-year-old out altogether in favour of Ramsdale as Moore's back-up.

Maarten Stekelenburg has been Ronald Koeman's No 1 keeper this season at Everton, making 18 appearances in all competitions.

Joel Robles has also played eight times, once as a substitute, and it seems the Goodison Park side would have been looking at Ramsdale as a prospect for the future.
