Dolph Ziggler: We look back at The Show-Off's top WWE moments
Ziggler will retire if he loses to The Miz at No Mercy on Sunday night
Friday 7 October 2016 15:05, UK
Dolph Ziggler's wrestling days will be over if he loses his Intercontinental Title match against The Miz at Sunday's WWE No Mercy pay-per-view.
The Show-Off has agreed to put his career on the line for one final shot at The Awesome One's belt and if he loses he will be gone - no Raw, no NXT, no Ring of Honor, no New Japan Pro Wrestling, gone.
If Sunday's showdown in California, which you can catch live on Sky Sports Box Office, proves to be Ziggler's farewell, he can look back on a WWE tenure with some notable highs, including this lot…
Winning his first world title
Ziggler's maiden world championship victory was hardly clinical - he was only awarded the title when Edge used the Spear, a move that had been outlawed by acting General Manager Vickie Guerrero, to beat him.
The Show-Off lost the championship to Edge soon after, but winning a world crown is not to be sniffed at - it's more than legends of the ring such as "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Jake "The Snake" Roberts and TedDiBiase managed.
Ziggler was latterly dashed in his pursuits of the WWE Title, then held by CM Punk, and the WWE Heavyweight Title, then held by Sheamus, but Money in the Bank offered him another chance...
Becoming Mr Money in the Bank
Winning the Money in the Bank briefcase almost guarantees you will become world champion, so when Ziggler retrieved it in 2012 he would have been delirious.
The Cleveland-born star chucked Christian off the ladder before sealing his victory, which earned him a championship shot at any time and place of his choosing for up to one year. Ziggler wasted little time trying to cash in his contract, even trying to sucker-punch Sheamus on the very same night. He frequently threatened to use it thereafter, until he went through with it and became champion again, but more on that later…
Remaining Mr Money in the Bank
As Ziggler pondered when to utilise his contract - and whom to use it on - other Superstars tried to prise it from him. Chris Jericho failed the night after SummerSlam in 2012, seeing his WWE deal terminated in the process, while John Cena came up short at Tables, Ladders and Chairs in December, when AJ Lee turned on him and helped Ziggler win their main-event Ladder Match.
All in all, 2012 was a fine year for the Show-Off - he was also the sole survivor at Survivor Series when his team, which included Wade Barrett and Alberto Del Rio, knocked off a side managed by Mick Foley.
World title No 2
Of course, Ziggler will argue that 2013 trumped the previous annum, as it was then when he nabbed his second world title. The Raw crowd the night after WrestleMania is always electric, due it being filled with many travelling Brits, but fans inside New Jersey's Izod Center came unglued when Ziggler pounced on a stricken Alberto Del Rio - the Mexican had been injured by Jack Swagger - and won the world title by pinfall following a Zig Zag.
Ziggler's win was nothing more than the audience wanted - they had been pining for him to strike as soon as Del Rio had been wounded by Swagger!
Show-Off survives again
Ziggler became a sole survivor at Survivor Series for the second time in his career in 2014 - thanks to one hell of a Sting in the tail! The Show-Off was left solo against Team Authority after his Team Cena colleagues had been eliminated - or, in Big Show's case, switched sides - but managed to turn a three-on-one disadvantage into a pseudo singles bout against Seth Rollins, a pseudo singles bout he would have won had Triple H not planted him with a Pedigree.
That was when WCW legend Sting made his WWE debut - flooring The Game and dragging Ziggler onto Rollins for the crucial pinfall.
