Jason Roy has turned down the chance to re-join England for the remainder of their ODI Series against Ireland, as Tom Kohler-Cadmore replaces Joe Root.

Roy was dropped from the squad for next month's World Cup despite being named in the provisional 15, a second cruel blow having also been cut from the T20 side on the eve of the short-form World Cup last year.

He missed the recent series against New Zealand with back spasms, paving the way for Dawid Malan and Harry Brook to edge him out of the trip to India, but England had not closed the door on the 33-year-old and invited him to link up with the shadow group, which Roy has rejected, casting doubt on his international future.

Root will rest up ahead of the World Cup, which begins on October 5 with England taking on New Zealand in the opening game - live on Sky Sports.

He had planned to play in Wednesday's series opener at Headingley as final preparation for next month's tournament in India but saw the game washed out.

The second ODI of the three-match series will take place at Trent Bridge on Saturday - live on Sky Sports.
