Officials at the Curragh are expecting midweek rainfall ahead of this weekend's Darley Irish Oaks fixture.

The fillies' Classic is the main event on what promises to be a thrilling two days at the home of Irish Flat racing and general manager Paul Hensey is likely to have a better idea of what ground conditions will be like in around 48 hours' time.

Hensey said: "The forecast is changeable for the next few days, but basically it's looking like remaining dry today and tomorrow and then we look like getting rain on Thursday.

"It's difficult to say exactly how much rain well get, but they are talking between five and 10 millimetres. The charts are a touch uncertain at the moment, so it's hard to say how much will fall and what effect it will have on the ground.

"From Friday through to Sunday it's looking like it will be mostly dry with the occasional shower, with high pressure building through the weekend.

"The ground is beautiful at the moment. It's good, summer ground."

Looking forward to the action on the track, Hensey said: "Ticket sales are going well and we've got an interest in both days.

"The two fillies (Curvy and Covert Love) being supplemented for the Oaks obviously adds a good bit of spice. We've a strong UK challenge taking on a good home team, so it should be a very competitive race.

"The Sapphire Stakes looks a very strong race for the Brits. It would be great to see Mecca's Angel come over for that.

"The Anglesey looks very competitive as well and it's interesting there are a few fillies in a race that's normally dominated by the colts.

"On Sunday the Kilboy Estate Stakes looks a great race, with some of the better older fillies taking on the three-year-olds and on the same card we have what looks like a very strong Minstrel Stakes.

"We should have two days of very competitive racing."
