Dual purpose performer set to try his hand at the winter game

Ile De Re will switch his attention to hurdling following his latest run on the level at Ascot on Saturday. The six-year-old, whose two previous runs on the Flat for Donald McCain resulted in victories in the Chester Cup and the Northumberland Plate, made the running until fading into seventh place behind Rite Of Passage in the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup. McCain will now try to find suitable hurdles races for the grey gelding, whose last run for trainer Ian Williams was over smaller obstacles in the Imperial Cup at Sandown in March. "He's grand after Saturday and he'll go hurdling now," said the Cholmondeley handler. "I've got a couple of races in mind but we'll just have to see what races we are going to get in." Ile De Re currently has a hurdles rating of 123.
