Our star columnist Richard Fahey's horse-by-horse guide to his Saturday runners.

It’s another busy Saturday for our team starting with Abbey Angel and Pamushana in the Sky Bet Best Odds Guaranteed EBF Fillies' Handicap at York.

The former has taken a long time to come to herself this season but we’ve been pleased with her for the last few weeks now. I think she’ll run a decent race. Pamushana has been frustrating as we think she’s a well-handicapped filly. She should be competitive here but £25,000 prizes at this track are never easy to win.

Withernsea runs in the Win 5,000 With sportinglife.com Pick 6 Handicap. Ideally he’d prefer softer going than is forecast but ran well on good ground at Newcastle two starts ago and wouldn’t be without a chance.

We’ve two in the Sky Bet Dash. Grandads World has been gelded but disappointed on his first start since last time. We’ve stuck a hood on him here and he worked really well this week. He’s not straightforward but ran well at the track on his previous visit to York. He needs to get his career back on the rails but it wouldn’t surprise me if he did.

Lexi’s Hero does his own thing. Any rain would help him and I’d never draw a line through the horse for all this is very competitive.

We’re also double handed in the Sky Bet Making Betting Better Median Auction Maiden Stakes. Penwortham did everything wrong on debut, was very keen and ran himself into the ground. He’s better than that and is a horse we like. If he switches off early I’d expect him to bounce back.

Latest Racing Stories

Back To Bond’s owner loves runners at this meeting. This is a horse who tries very hard but he has to step up on what he’s done so far to win this.

Gabrial The Duke ran a bit flat the last day and we’ve freshened him up since for the Sky Bet Supporting Yorkshire Air Ambulance Handicap. He seems in good order again but needs a lifetime best to win this.

Our final runner at York is Astley Hall in the Sky Bet Supporting New Beginnings Nursery.  He’s a bonny little horse with ability but has been wayward and we’ve had him gelded. He needs to learn to run in a straight line but did work well this week.

There’s a nice team from Musley Bank heading down to Ascot.

We’ve been experimenting with the trip for Cadeau Magnifique but bring him back to a mile for the Weatherbys Private Banking Handicap. Rain would help him and if it does go soft there he’ll run better than his forecast odds suggest.

It’s great to have four runners in the Gigaset International Stakes. Rene Mathis won the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket last time but while he remains in good form, he does seem a better horse at Newmarket than anywhere else.

Heaven’s Guest should arguably have been second that day through nobody’s fault but still ran another cracking race in third. He’s a wonderful horse and while he’s as high as he needs to be in the handicap and getting older now, we know he can still be competitive. Slower ground here will help.

Farlow is absolutely flying at home right now, he’s in the best form we’ve ever had him. This is clearly a very competitive race though and he has gone up three pounds to a mark of 91 for his York run. He isn’t straightforward but this would be a very good day for him to get it right on the track.

Mehdi has been disappointing as I felt he’d be up to winning a handicap or two. He still may be. It might not come in a race as competitive as this but he has no weight on his back.

The forecast rain would help Chiswick Bey ahead of the Longines Handicap. He’s had a great season already but whether he’s up to a race as competitive as this nowadays we’ll have to see.

Spirit Of The Law heads to Newmarket for the Adnams Dry Hopped Lager Handicap which represents the lowest grade he’s contested for some time. As a result he has top weight to carry but he ran well at Chester last time and must have a solid chance.

Bimbo does her own thing and was disappointing at Newmarket last time but if she returned to the form of her previous win at the track then she wouldn’t be without a chance in the Adnams Ghost Ship Fillies' Handicap.

We’ve two in the Adnams Broadside Handicap. Bonds Girl has been disappointing this season after a fantastic campaign as a two-year-old. I suppose she did run ok first time out but I’m just worried the others have caught her up this year.

I’d expect Steve Prescott to run well. I was a fraction disappointed with him last time but if he’s in the same nick as when second to Captain Colby in May than he’ll run well. I think he is and he has no weight on his back.

Darrington will need to be back at his best to be competitive in the Adnams Longshore Vodka Handicap having been somewhat in-and-out of late.

Stylish Boy is a horse who will improve with racing. He ran ok at Ayr the last day and I’d imagine he’s capable of better still in the Collingwood Insurance Company Maiden Auction Stakes at Newcastle.
